Although the title of this series is adapted from one of Federico Garcia Lorca’s ‘Sonnets of Dark Love’, the visual starting point for these etchings could not be more different. In October 2007 The Courtauld Institute in London held an exhibition of Walter Sickert’s ‘The Camden Town Nudes’ and it is these paintings, together with Degas’s monotypes and the lithographs of Georg Grosz, that provided the inspiration for this new series.
